In order to achieve a more structured and organized communication between users and satellite data providers for weather, water, and climate applications from the community, a regional survey was developed by the Coordination Group on Satellite Data Requirements for Region III and Region IV (Americas and the Caribbean). This is the survey report draft, including an first interpretation of results and proposals for a way forward in terms of optimized regional data distribution and dissemination.

GOES-EAST OPTIMIZED SCHEDULES - EXPLANATION OF PROPOSED CHANGES

This document explains the proposed optimized Routine and RSO schedules for GOES-East. This information can also be found at: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Operations/GOES/schedules_3col.html.

Test dates are as follows:
On March 4, 2014, 1600-1900 UTC GOES engineers will replace Routine GOES-13 (GOES-East) imaging with Optimized Routine imaging. On March 6, 2014, 1600-1900 UTC GOES engineers will replace Rapid GOES-13 (GOES-East) imaging with Optimized Rapid imaging.

NOAA representants briefed the Group on GOES-13 Scanning Options and the Group has discussed on the development a list of prioritized options to be proposed to NOAA for location and size of the GOES-13 RSO scan frames over South America.

The purpose of this first teleconference was to have a discussion on GOES-13 (East) adjusted scanning schedule as well as the agreement on way forward with regional survey (update on current dissemination means and product requirements). Additionaly, it was given a brief update on the outcome of RA IV 16th session (Curacao) and on the plan to send a WMO letter to all PRs in RA III and IV.

Los objetivos de esta reuni�n son la preparaci�n del trabajo del grupo permanente de coordinaci�n sobre necesidades de acceso e intercambio de datos satelitales y la elaboraci�n de recomendaciones sobre el mandato, composici�n, modalidades de trabajo y estructura de apoyo a dicho grupo.

Informe complementario sobre los requisitos regionales para datos satelitales en la AR III / IV

Este informe cita los hallazgos de la reuni�n de progreso de Miami 2011 y proporciona una actualizaci�n de estado.

En un pr�ximo paso, la OMM enviar� una carta a todos sus Miembros en la AR III y IV y a NOAA / NESDIS, INPE, EUMETSAT, inform�ndoles sobre los resultados del Equipo de Tarea e invitando a las nominaciones a un grupo regional permanente que se espera que continuar (y ampliar) el trabajo del Equipo de Tareas a largo plazo. La OMM tambi�n alienta a los proveedores de sat�lites que cubren el �rea a seguir trabajando con los Miembros regionales para cumplir con sus requisitos de datos satelitales, incluido que los mecanismos de difusi�n de datos satelitales en respuesta a los requisitos regionales se establezcan a largo plazo, de manera oportuna y asequible.

1. Hemos hecho unos pocos cambios con respecto a la versi�n anterior Rev-3D.

Se le not�, como se mencion� en la versi�n anterior, que han mantenido algunos duplicidad formato (GEOTIFF / HDF) en un muy pocos productos, coloc�ndolos en l�neas separadas de la tabla (por ejemplo: productos de 29 y 29 bis, 33 y 33 bis, 42 y 42 bis, 51 y 51 bis). Lo hicimos despu�s de darse cuenta de que pod�a mantener ambos formatos de transmisi�n previstas en el tipo de datos.

3. Tambi�n utilizamos el "TAMA�O FINAL" (comprimido) de columna para estimar las tasas de datos, suponiendo una tasa de compresi�n de 50%, para la mayor�a de los archivos compresible.

TALLER DE REQUERIMIENTOS DE DATOS POR SATÉLITE PARA RA III y RA IV

El Taller de requisitos de datos satelitales para RA III y RA IV, convocado por la OMM, fue organizado por el Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espacias (INPE) con el apoyo de NOAA. El prop�sito del taller fue revisar los requisitos para productos satelitales que hab�an sido identificados por el Equipo de Tareas sobre Requisitos de Datos Satelitales establecido en junio de 2009 por el Secretario General de la OMM, e identificar un camino a seguir para proporcionar una respuesta pr�ctica y eficiente a estos requisitos.

Estimado Equipo de Trabajo del "SATELLITE DATA REQUIREMENTS WORKSHOP FOR RA III and RA IV"

1. Con respecto a las versiones anteriores, en ésta hemos agrupado los productos similares para hacer más eficiente la intercomparación de los mismos y sus próximas revisiones

2. Para mejorar la claridad hemos elegido columnas independientes para Nombre del Productos, Información Característica y Cobertura.

3. Donde aparec�a m�s evidente hemos filtrado la duplicidad de los formatos, presente en antiguas versiones.

4. El formato GEOTIFF ha sido asignado a productos orientados a la generación de imágenes y el análisis sinóptico.

5. El formato BUFR ha sido asignado a productos para asimilación.

6. Esta revisión refleja también una importante sugerencia : todos los productos que consisten en la informaci&ocaute;n de la imagen (ítems: 1; 2; 3; 4; 5; 7; 19) y que se exhib�an en doble formato (GEOTIFF y HDF) en las anteriores versiones de la Tabla, ahora están siendo asignadas solamente en el formato GEOTIFF, adecuado para la "product and image generation" , aplicación básica.

7. Nosotros estamos considerando que los usuarios interesados en esta información , con la intención de asimilación, puedan obtenerla a trav�s de medios alternativos de comunicaci�n, tales como ftp-Internet. Por favor, si�ntase con la libertad de acercarnos sus comentarios sobre esta cuesti�n.

8. Alguna duplicidad GEOTIFF y/o HDF todavía continía para algunos pocos productos. En estos casos ser�n necesarias mayores discusiones para alcanzar una solución definitiva.

9. Hay tambi�n una columna adicional para el TAMANO FINAL (comprimida). Usaremos esa columna, en la revisión final, para estimar las tasas de información.

10. 10. Actualmente, estamos asumiendo una tasa de compresión del 50%, para la mayor�a de los archivos compresibles. Muy probablemente , hacia el final de las revisiones, conseguiremos un sustancial decrecimiento en las tasas de informaci�n usando esa columna.

11. Como usted observar�, algunos acr�nimos fueron elegidos para el área de Cobertura�. M�s negociaciones sobre el tema tendr�n lugar para alcanzar un acuerdo final sobre la m�s deseada (o adecuada) �rea de cobertura para cada producto.

12. Le pedimos que descargue la �ltima versi�n de la tabla "RA-III-IV-Requirements-v20100630 (rev3d).xls" .

13. Una vez revisada, si deseara hacer alg�n comentario, por favor, env�e la tabla revisada y/o sus comentarios a Diego Souza - (email: diego.souza@inpe.br).

14. Nosotros organizaremos y compilaremos todos los comentarios y sugerencias en una versión final que ser� enviada a todos los interesados.

Dear Task Team of the SATELLITE DATA REQUIREMENTS WORKSHOP FOR RA III and RA IV

1. With respect to the former versions we have grouped together the similar products in order to make more efficient the inter-comparisons and the next run of revisions!

2. To improve clarity we elected independent columns for Product Name, Data Characteristics and Coverage.

3. Where would appear more evident we already filtered the duplicity of formats, present in former versions.

4. GEOTIFF format has been assigned to products oriented to image generation and synoptic analysis.

5. BUFR format assigned to products for assimilation.

6. This revision is also reflecting one important suggestion : all the products that consist of image data (Items: 1; 2; 3; 4; 5; 7; 19) and were exhibiting dual formats (GEOTIFF and HDF) in the former versions of the Table, are now being assigned only to the GEOTIFF format, proper for the "product and image generation" basic application.

7. We are considering that the users interested in this data, for assimilation purposes, should get them through alternative communications means, like ftp-Internet. Please fell free to place your comments about this issue.

8. Some duplicity GEOTIFF and/or HDF still remains for some few products. Further discussions will be necessary to reach a final solution in these cases.

9. There is also an additional column for the FINAL SIZE (compressed) . We shall use this column, in the final revision, to estimate the data rates.

10. Presently we are assuming the compression rate of 50%, for most of the compressible files. Very likely we shall get, in the end, a substantial decrease on the data rates by using this column.

11. As you will find, some acronyms were elected for the "Coverage Area". Further negotiations shall take place in order to reach a final agreement on the most desirable or adequate coverage areas for each product.

12. We kindly ask you to download this last version of the table "RA-III-IV-Requirements-v20100630 (rev3d).xls" .

13. After revising it or should you wish to make any comment, please send the revised table and/or your comments to Diego Souza - (email: diego.souza@cptec.inpe.br).
